In high school, I sang in the soprano section of the choir. The “soprano I” section which, for those of you who haven’t enjoyed singing loudly with lots of other people, is the tippy-top notes.
As we grow and age, our vocal chords relax and stretch and our voices will slowly start to deepen. I always imagined that I would mourn the loss of those high notes. It seemed like a cruel fate to be given a gift and then watch it slowly be taken away.
But this morning, I woke up our thickly sleepy house humming an Indigo Girls tune. And I realized: now I can reach the low notes.
